East German
Consulate
Park Avenue & 38th
Street, NYC
What a history this building has. Purchased
from Milton Ackerman in 1971, it served as the East German Consulate until the uniting of
the Germanys made it unnecessary. (The owner before Ackerman is rumored to be Wells
Fargo.) Recently purchased by the American Scandinavian Foundation, it is being
razed to make way for a new Scandinavian House...
with salvage being done by the Architecturologists, of
course...
These
doors and window guards are heavy cast iron
The building's structure is mostly limestone and granite...
All of these corbels, capitals, and balustrades are limestone
